Suite Française - le film !

Nouvelles fabuleaux ! A while back, I posted about Irène Némirovsky's unfinished masterpiece Suite Française ( see here ) . I just found out today that this book is being made into a movie, and filming begins in Brussels and Paris this month! An all-star cast makes this news even more fantastic (Michelle Williams, Kristin Scott Thomas, Matthais Schoenaerts, and Sam Riley). For more details check out Chapter 1 - Take 1's blog . It sounds as though the film will only focus on the Dolce  piece, but that is okay...perhaps they will make a prequel of Storm in June ? Je suis très excité! I wonder if the filming in Paris will coincide with my visit in July? That would be incredible to see! Now if I could only figure out how to be an extra... 

La Reine Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette is one of the most well-known queens in all of history. But how much do you really know about her? She married the dauphin Louis-Auguste Bourbon, the future King Louis XVI (XVI is 16, in case you are not proficient in your Roman numerals) at the ripe old age of fourteen and would go on to become queen of France at age 18. Of course, Louis was older than Marie...by one year! They were initially married by proxy in April 1770, then in person the following month. The May wedding took place at the Royal Chapel at Versailles where the bride wore a gown with diamonds and pearls. I am guessing her proxy did not don such jewels...
